Fantasy, Invention & Dance :

These three pieces present some more rather playful interpretation of Bach's original material.

Bach Fantasy in C minor BWV 906 3:49min 0.99US($)
Bach Invention & Variations by Hal 486 2:27min 0.49US($)
Bach Minuett in F 1:25min 0.49US($)

The recording of the Crab Canon is an example of the baroque music (MP3) presented on this page where works of Bach are arranged on Steel Drum and Marimba. But for the many pieces including the Double Violin Concerto this combination is backed up with lush synthesizers in the background - cool contrapuntal music in a modern setting. But there are some exceptions starting with the Choral Prelude where we have used a couple of ''humorous' Brass synthesizers on the Moog - not quite Herbie Flowers but interesting. In the Fantasy arrangement we used a somewhat brighter synth to augment the Steel Drums because that seemed to fit better. Then as a contrast the Minuett uses a Celtic Harp and Marimba combination with the Harp very much to the fore. In the Chaconne we simply supported the Steel Drums with two synth's to give depth and body to the slower passages leaving out the Marimba. While for the Flute Concerto we introduced the Log Marimba into the bass line for additional instrumental depth.

This approach to the instrumentation arrangements of baroque music mp3 recordings brings a freshness to the music, liberating it from the the concert chamber and bringing it out into sunnier climes.

Air, Preludes & Fugue:

We have offered the Air on a G string as a LoFi mono ring tone for nearly a year now so we thought it was about time we made the HiFi version available. These Preludes are also rather fun:

Other innovations in these additions include offering the Double Violin Concerto as a single file rather than 3 separate movements - if this proves popular we will look at our existing part works. We have been encouraged in this by the understanding that so many of our customers now have broadband that larger file sizes are no longer a barrier to purchase. In many ways the inclusion of arrangements the slow movements of both the Double Violin and the Flute Concerto's is a more significant development. This is facilitated by the use of two ''slow' synth's to complement the Steel Drums and the Marimba taking over in the legato passages.

Partita (Sonatas):

The Partita or Sonata were early examples of works with movements with different tempos that later led to the development of the symphony. Here we have one complete example and two extracts. The chaconne was originally composed for the violin as part of Partita No 2 and so it is particularly surprising that it respond well to a percussion treatment.

Concertos:

These two Concertos are quite different from each other and the Brandenburg Concerto's we recorded earlier. For the Double Violin Concerto we have used two different Steel Drum synthesizer combinations to distinguish the two voices and the Marimba takes on the Orchestral part which T Walter has transcribed for Piano. The Flute concerto is a more straight forward arrangement with the Steel Drums taking the Flute part supported by a slow synth, the Marimba taking the main orchestral parts while another slow synth fills in for the Cello and the Log Marimba makes its first appearance as Basso Continuo.
