Camille Saint Saens was admired by Liszt and Gounod and taught Faure - working in Paris as a teacher and an organist at the Madeline. We have made our selection from his most famous shorter works. Sadly he seems to have felt that Le carnaval des animaux was too frivolous for a serious composer and restricted it's performance during his life time. We have included the Finale and the Fossils and along with the steel drums we have used marimba, bell and ocarina. The original orchestration has been greatly simplified with steel drums standing in for the strings and the pianos but the use of the marimba proved particularly effective in the Fossils piece. For the Symphonic Poem - Danse Macabre by Camille Saint Saens, we adapted a piano transcription, augmenting the steel drums on this occasion with a flying sine synth, as well as bass, timpani and cymbals.
Why not compare these Saint Saens MP3 remixes with some by Chopin, Debussy, Dvorak, Offenbach, Paganini and Tchaikovsky - the impact of this approach on music of particular composers can be quite distinctive.
