New World Instruments

Toccata (from the Italian toccare, "to touch") are closely associated in most people's minds with fugues played on the Organ and so it has been a revelation to us how well they respond to a new world percussion treatment. But JS Bach composed his Toccata Nos 1 - 7 for the Harpsichord and they too respond well to our percussion treatments as does Schumann’s piano composition in toccata form. Our only example from the organ repertoire in this collection is the famous Widor Toccata from his 5th Symphony for Organ much used at weddings.
