According to Wikipedia Electronica is a recognised element of the vast range of electronic music and we use it in the sense of music aimed at home listening rather than the dance floor. 'Feel Good' is the nearest we have been able to come to the capacity of the steel drums to bring a smile to your lips. In selecting the best electronica songs for this page we have tried to give a sense of the breadth of the collection and the different treatments we have developed. In some cases they evoke the happy thoughts associated with Caribbean holidays, in others the impudent contrast they provide to Mega Moog's voice is enough to have them join our favorite electronica songs. The Marimba shares those sunny associations and in combination with the steel drums makes for a bubbly sound. We did consider Electronic Art Music along with Wendy Carlos and Isao Tomita but that all seemed rather grand - a bit too serious for our MP3 Music Site.
The advantages of the steel drums include their crisp, clean sound, prompt rise time at the start of the note, the absence of some of the overtones of the piano or harpsichord, their distinctive response to rapid repeat sections found in some pieces and the relaxed, sunshine associations with the Caribbean - relaxation music online.
The tuneful response of synthesized metal (steel) drums bring a fresh new world atmosphere to the feel good music we have selected. By removing the formal associations of the classical music instruments and layering the synthesized sounds in a digital polyphony we encourage you to listen with a fresh ear to familiar and unfamiliar works. We hope that they will find a place in your favorite electronica songs.
Steel Drums, Bells and Hammond Organ
By contrast we have included some pieces for the drama of the arrangement such as the Bach Fugues and Gounod's Gallia which probably fall out side the strict ambit of "feel good" and they might be though of as Electronic Art Music.
There is a wide range of emulated percussion instruments to choose from and we have used marimba, a classic mega moog, hammond organ, harp, and vibraphone (good vibes) to provide contrasting, complementing and or bass parts in different combinations to augment the contribution of the steel drums.
Steel Drums and Marimba :
We seek to add value by presenting the music in new and exiting ways, freed from the technical constraints that applied to the composer but keeping faithful to the score.
