French Impressionism - Music
There are strong parallels between the visual and musical Impressionist movements which seek to portray the atmosphere of scenes by bluring colour and tone. Debussy and Ravel are specifically identified with the musical movement as are Monet and Renoir in the visual sphere. We have also included contributions from Saint Saens and Faure who taught and worked with Debussy and Ravel. They provide examples of the way in which this style developed in France. We seek to add value by presenting this music in new and exiting ways, freed from the technical constraints that applied to the composer but keeping faithful to the score. But you could argue that our emphasis on percussion has closer parallels with pointillism rather than impressionism.
