A visit to a music shop in Decatur Street in NewOrleans, one of the streets where Jelly RollMorton played piano in a river side bordello, started my journey with MIDI music. I boughthis collected piano works and started fromthere. Some of the arrangements based on mytranscriptions are included on this pagetogether with arrangements based on otherMIDI file sources such as Warren Trachtman.Morton wrote initially for the bordello pianos heplayed but latter he worked with small jazzbands and rearranged his compositions forthem. My recordings include a mixture of pianorearrangements on my own percussionensemble of Marimba, gamelan, vibes and SteelDrums and band rearrangements which includethe ocarina. His compositions include rags, stomps and blues and his own New Orleans /Spanish influenced originals. Many were giventhat extra swing that became known as Jazzwhen they were taken up by the bands whichbegan to flourish in New Orleans and furthernorth.
