Overtures

On New World Percussion

The Overture owes it’s origin to the introductory  music for theatrical performances of Opera and  Ballet.  But it subsequently took on a life of it’s  own as a programmatic (story telling) piece  sometimes presented at the start of a concert.  They were originally orchestrated for the  smaller “pit” orchestra but some of the later  “stand alone” pieces were much more expansive  like the 1812 Overture for example.  In this  selection we have examples right across that  range rearranged on our New World Percussion  Instrument palette.  You might try the Wikipedia Overture page for a  fuller explanation.
