A musical Suite or Partita generally refers to aset of instrumental pieces grouped together fororchestral performance. Initially this oftenreferred to a set of dances sometimesintroduced with an overture or prelude butlaterly it was interpreted more broadly toinclude pieces linked thematically in some waysuch as Holst’s Planets Suite.In this selection from suites we have examplesranging from the Baroque, through theImpressionist to modern 20th centurycompositions.
