Our arrangements are based on MIDItranscriptions of the original sheet musicpublished ten years either side of 1900 in theUSA. Many of the transcriptions in this selectionwere produced by John Cowell and have been putinto the public domain without restriction. Weused a digital sample based version of theIndonesian Gamelan together with a selection ofdigital Marimbas. With trial and error a consistentset up was developed and then adapted for eachrecording. We have sought to emphasise thecontrast between the two voices of the pianomusic whilst emphasising the rhythmic content. There are more Gamelan Ragtime tracks on theRags, Dances and Intermezzos pages and youmight also be interested to hear our selection ofother march tunes.
